off to colorado

I'm headed out on vacation in a few minutes, I'm going to southwest Colorado, near Cortez, to work at an archaeological dig for a week. I really, really need this time away from work. I think I've got everybody trained enough for me to be gone, and they can easily get hold of me if they need to.
My garden is about done, so I'm not worried about that. It kind of disappointed me this year, I think I'm going to move it next year.

I need a vacation

I really need this vacation I'm taking this week. I think I've got everything ready at work, so I can go and not worry the whole time. I hope so.
We had a great time singing at Chillicothe, and the people were great, despite one person, who will be unnamed, who apparently had no use for us (he never does). Oh well, you can't please everyone, and life's too short to let a few people ruin things. I know a lot of people appreciated what we did, so we'll sing for them.

things smoother, things not

Everything is finally getting better at work, next week we'll finally be at full staff, I just got to train them all, but I can do that.
The situation for the prison visits, tho, is rather, uh, up in the air. I won't go into it, but Jim, our liason, got kicked out, permanently. We don't know how it's going to effect the rest of us. We hope we can work it out, for the sake of the people inside.
It's not fair if everyone suffers because a few people screwed up.
It does look bad, tho, but what can you expect, when natives are involved in the federal prison system, they will get screwed.

hot times

I can't believe how hot it's been the last week. I really hate hot weather, so this has been terrible.
I had a great time at the north american science fiction convention in St. Louis last week, in spite of the heat. There weren't as many people as I'd expected, probably because of gas prices, but there were several thousand, from all over the country and Canada, and a few from overseas. I saw a lot of old friends, and made a few new ones, stayed up really late, went to some good panels, spent more money than I should have on books, shirts, etc., and found myself dropping right back into SF fandom, where I'd left off years ago. I think I may start going back to a few conventions again (though not 6 or 7 a year like I did at one time.) I really needed this pick up,and it looks like things may get better at work, so it's been a good couple of weeks ( except my squash plants all died, I'd like to know why.)
